In October 1996, Billy, the co-founder of the Billy Company, fractured his neck and lost the general use of his body, including his fingers.
Following this incident, not only did he have to deal with the restriction of his body, but he also had to relearn many daily tasks, and some became impossible, such as putting on his shoes.
From there was born the idea of Billy shoes: Inclusive shoes combining style and functionality for everyone, including people with reduced mobility or disabilities.
The principle of the shoe is simple: a stylish shoe with a zipper that goes from the ankle to the front of the foot. In this way, it is easier to insert the foot and make sure it is well in place. The zipper allows to be independent when it comes to close the shoes.
The shoes also feature straight soles for an optimal fit with orthotics. Also, the laces allow a perfect fit every time.
Orthotics
The use of orthotics can greatly complicate the purchase of shoes since the models offering enough space for them are limited, not to mention the child's loss of autonomy since the foot remains difficult to insert into the shoe.
In addition, some types of orthotics, such as tibial, are not always suitable for standard shoes. Billy offers shoes of different widths (standard and wide) to adapt to different orthotics and prosthetics. The large opening allows easy and precise insertion. Finally, the shoes are equipped with several insoles allowing height adjustment.
